13. larry o donnell (Waste Management CEO. On Undercover Boss, advertised at the Superbowl)
11. vizio internet apps (WES)
- VIZIO is a company. From what I can tell, you are supposed to capitalize the entire name though it’s not an acronym.
- - They make TVs and TV related devices.
- - - In particular, they make “internet apps” for TVs.
- Why now?
- - They had a Superbowl commercial.
- - - In the commercial, robotic arms plucked random things from the internet and dropped them in a bin, presumably for your viewing enjoyment.
- - - - Amusingly, one of the hands tried, and failed, to grab a ninja.
- - The commercial intrigued me.
- - - As someone who has a TV but no cable service, I’m always interested in better ways to watch Internet content on it.
- - - While I have no desire to buy one of VISIO’s TVs, a cheaper set-top box may be just what the doctor ordered.
- - - - But, because they don’t have a product yet, we’ll have to wait and see.
- - - UPDATE: Bob was correct, though so was I. They have had TVs with “internet apps” for at least a few months, but they are not well advertised on their website. The first few TVs on their product page don’t even say anything about the apps. I apparently didn’t scroll down much.
8. kleen energy middletown ct (SAM)
- This is an energy company in Middletown CT.
- Well, It was a natural gas power plant under construction.
- Key word is was.
- Why now?
- A rather large explosion pretty much destroying the construction happened today.
- The cause is unsure.
- It seems the pipes has the correct ventelation but someone somewhere may have been using a blow torch or a space heater when the pipe clearing was happening just before attaching the pipes to the natural gas.
- It is also noted it could have been static electricity with the pressure and dryness of the air.
- Unfortunatly three people lost their lives in the explosion.
4. how old is roger daltrey (BOB)
Related Terms: 20.the who drummer superbowl; 17.roger daughtry; 12.the who super bowl; 9.the who lead singer; 7.peter townsend; 6.zak starkey; 5.the who drummer
- He’s 65
- - And not at the top of his game
- Why now?
- - The Who played the Superbowl half-time show
- - - More or less
- - - - Pete Townshend missed all kinds of guitar cues
- - - - - And neither he nor Roger could sing; either because of the noise or a lack of rehearsal or just age, they both did little but shout their lyrics tunelessly
- - - - - - Which made me sad
- - - - - - - ‘Cause I love me some The Who and was looking forward to it
- - - - On the other hand, they did have a nice selection of songs in the medley and visually it was quite nice
- - Related trend question: Who was the drummer?
- - - Not the legendary Keith Moon as he died in 1978

- Each series of Heroes on NBC is referred to as a volume, as in comic books
- - And has a subtitle
- - - Typically, a teaser at the end of the previous season will introduce the new volume
- - - - Due to the writer’s strike a few years ago, Volume 2 was cut short, and so Season 2 was volumes 2 and 3
- Why now?
- - Season 4 of Heroes concluded
- - - Anticlimactically, I thought, for what had shaped up to be a decent season
- - - - And Volume 6 was introduced
- - - - - Subtitled “Brave New World”
- - Incidentally, a photo of Heroes star Hayden Panettiere appears in the show notes
17. george miller comedian (SAM)

- Friend of the Show Notes (it was available but not drafted) during the week ending August 14, 2009.
- - It’s a word.
- - Originally it was synonymous with “parrot.”
- - - From the German “Papagei.”
- - Nowadays, it means “a fop,” or a lavishly dressed person.
- - - Perhaps vainly so.
- - - From what I can tell, Liberache would be a good example of a popinjay.
- - It can also mean a person who is so full of himself he thinks everything he says and does is perfect.
- - - So like us.
- - - - Popinjast?
- Why now?
- - It was on Fox’s The O’Reilly Factor
- - - And, for once, it was not used to describe Bill O’Reilly himself.

- So, movie star Megan Fox
- - I’m sure needs little introduction
- - - She’s rather attractive, which seems to be her main claim to fame
- - - - But there’s a slight problem
- - - - - She has brachydactyly type B
- - - - - - Also called clubbed thumb
- - - - - - - The last joint of one of her thumbs is shortened and widened
- Why now?
- - She appeared in a Superbowl commercial with a closeup of her hands texting on a mobile phone
- - - People wondered why her thumb looked normal
- - - - It’s because she had a thumb double for the ad
- - - - - I shit you not
5. sleeping beauty syndrome (SAM)
- Kinda like narcolepsy but when the person falls asleep it can be for days, sometimes weeks at a time.
- During their sleep spell, when awaken, people report everything being fuzzy and dream like.
- Usually predominant in adolescent males and the onset is usually after a rather nasty cold or viral infection.
- No known cause. Some believe a viral infection that can last 8-12 years, others think auto immune disease.
- The spells usually end mid 40s in most cases.
- Very rare and hard to diagnose with only 1000 reported cases.
- Why now?
- An English teen appeared on the news after sleeping for 2 weeks straight.
4. gmail buzz (WES)
- New social networking app from Teh Google
- - Google is Mother. Google is Father.
- - From looking at it, it appears to be some mixed-up conglomeration of Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, Google News, and a blog.
- - - And I have no idea how to use it.
- - - - Mostly because I have no idea what it’s for.
- - From what I can tell, some people love it and some people hate it.
- - - Mostly, though, people can’t figure out what it’s for.

- - I actually featured them on The Good Music Show.
- - - Which appears to be totally baroken.
- - - - I let the website lapse, but when I try to navigate to the directory, it redirects.
- - - - - I think it’s a wordpress setting that I can’t change because I can’t access it, because I can’t find it in any of the typical locations this stuff is saved on my host.
- - - - - - Not to mention I don’t really care all that much.
- Why now?
- - I really wish Bob had drafted by now (Monday morning) so I knew if he had already talked about Bonnaroo. I’m going to assume he did and just say they were announced to be in it as well.
- And, because we’re heading to the break anyway, how about I play their podsafe song?
EMail (volcanicast@gmail.com)
- 1 from Sean
After obtaining some forged travel papers, I made my way to the
western section of Paris to meet the formidable Lady Margot Bonnaire.
The Lady Bonnaire was in her mid-fifties, with a face like a hatchet
and a tongue twice as sharp. Before she’d agree to work with me, I had
to earn her trust by breaking one of her best spies out of a Gestapo
cell. The job didn’t exactly go like clockwork, but I managed to get
the prisoner out amongst the gunfire and explosions.
With that out of the way, Madame Bonnaire let me know where her
priorities lay. She had been an art restorer in the Louvre before all
the shooting started, and was no fan of the Nazi’s cultural policies.
Those policies basically boiled down to “Burn what we don’t like,
steal what we do like, and drown the rest out with propaganda
broadcasts.” My job was to cripple the enemy’s ability to erode the
cultural landscape of Paris. I figured, why not? I’m a classy guy.
My first target practically landed in my lap. A general named Loder
was overseeing a massive book-burning at the Arc de Triomphe. I would
voice the people’s displeasure at this act by putting a bullet in his
head. After picking up a scoped rifle from the Black Market, I drove
to the site of the burning.
The Arc de Triomphe was an unpleasant shade of orange, lit by great
heaps of burning books. I could hear Loder ranting over a loudspeaker
about “Parisian trash” and “cowardly degenerate filth” as his troops
milled about the bonfires. I set the rifle on the hood of the car and
scanned under the Arc for Loder. I was in for a shock.
Loder had shown up for the book-burning in a fucking tank.
There’s something vaguely ironic about calling your enemies degenerate
cowards while you’re hiding inside an armored vehicle, but I didn’t
have time to appreciate irony. I had to go buy a grenade launcher.
It wasn’t cheap, but I managed to get my hands on a Siegfaust Mark II
launcher and set up a shot behind Loder’s tank. I wasn’t expecting it
to be quite so noisy. The last time something in my arms went off that
loudly, it was an Italian girl I met in Monaco. A second shot turned
Loder’s tank into a twisted metal coffin, and then it was time to make
a hasty exit.
The Culture War had begun.

- - - She wrote it, ironically, while not attending the titular event.

- - - - - I wonder how that worked out for her.
- She was big in the activisim in the 70s, and her best stuff was recorded during that time.
- - All of it could be easily described as Folk.
- During the 80’s though, she experimented different musical styles including Jazz, Rock, and even Pop.
- Had a resurgence in the 90s, though I personally am not a big fan of that stuff.
- - She retired in 2002, but after seeing Brett Favre she decided to do a comeback.
- - - Actually, if one inspired the other it was her inspiring him. She came back in 2006.

Explicit Warning if missed

Very short (and lame) volcanipedia entry for this one:
*
* http://www.crazynutso.com/volcanipedia/tiki-index.php?page=Week+Ending+February+12+2010
* (Number) We’ve done a dozen dozen shows!
* No. It was just you farting.
* * More seriously, holy crap that was annoying. I apologize but the only other option was to hang up on Sam.
* Any topic we discuss turns into a weird sexual thing. Doesn’t have to be something as inherently sexual as a misshapen thumb.
* I missed doing the podsafe music.
* We prefer to call it “being glazed”
* As an aside, we recorded OVER 90 minutes of audio. I cut it down to under an hour (including the music!) and only have about 10 minutes of Tangentcast to post.
* * With any luck, that will be posted tomorrow
I’m sorry if I made it annoying!!!
When was that said?
No, Hooters, you didn’t make it annoying, SAM did!
* When she wasn’t handing out tips on how to pick up chicks to Canadians, that is.
* And that was only because of the SKYPE connection.
* And the presence of Bob.
* That’s always annoying. (I’m Joking. It’s just mostly annoying. :)
* Never run out of salt during the winter, at least not if you have a steep driveway.
* Did Mr Hooters get drunk and pass out, or just get bored with the proceedings?
* Is there anyone I haven’t offended yet?
* Yeah the Skype connection is always bad. But Skype Sam is better than No Sam.
* I broke my snow shovel today. Good thing I only have a short walkway to shovel.
* Mr. Hooters had to get home. He did not leave angry or anything. Well, no more angry than normal.
* Today, or for all time? Today, you have yet to offend me.
* Agreed, especially since we can pretend she’s in her underwear when she Skypes in.
* I’ve broken 2 snow shovels, and have concluded that it’s worth the extra money for the metal ones. It’s pretty impossible to get up the driveway sans shoveling though. Even if it’s only a half inch.
* If being referred to as ‘Mr Hooters’ doesn’t set him off, I’m sure nothing will.
* Laid-back people are the toughest to offend.
@Wes, You said ‘holy crap, that was annoying’ Couldn’t tell if you were talking just about Skype, or if that included that we took forever to record - that part I added to.
@Nutso - Referring to my hubby as Mr. Hooters is actually kinda funny, not offensive. At least I don’t think so.
I will tell you if you’ve crossed a line. Though, I don’t think he has much of a line.
I have yet to be offended. In fact, I think I’m the one that gets the compliments!
@both - Get a metal shovel. You won’t have to buy another one for like ever.
Hey Nutso, are you gonna make a 2010 link on your page?
When I finally got to the Home depot last Saturday, after being stuck on the roads for 3 hrs, I totally bought a metal scoop shovel designed for shoveling animal droppings. Because it’s tough and moves a lot. I still need to get a snow style metal one, though. Although I also got a snow blower.
* Holy crap, I TOTALLY forgot about the 2010 page! Thanks for catching that!
* Stop using office time to surf lame web sites.
For those curious souls, here’s some pictures of ‘Snowmageddon 2010′.
*
*http://www.crazynutso.com/crazy_nutso/snow/snow.html
* whoops, if you don’t put a space between teh bullet point,
* It doesn’t know it’s a link.
* let’s try that again.
* http://www.crazynutso.com/crazy_nutso/snow/snow.html
* much better?
* @Hooters: I was specifically referring to the CHHK noises every time we hit a certain note as the annoying. A 90 minute show to edit is actually quite average, though getting one under 60 minutes is pretty rare. I didn’t mind it at all. Considering we used to have TWICE that, I’m happy :)
* I believe I shall be picking up a metal shovel tomorrow. Especially because it snowed. Again.
@Crazy_Nutso: Snowmageddon pics make me even happier I rent.
* You should take those icicles, break them off intact, and turn them upside down and line your path with them.
* * It looks all medieval.
* * * On your buttocks.
* Tangentcast is up! http://planetretcon.com/podcast/volcanicast_tangentcast_20100212.mp3
* Yeah, we got another 3 inches or so here. On top of the 20 inches we already had.
* And after I do that with the icicles, I should stick a snowman’s head on one of them, right?
* tangentcast feed is also updated.
* What an awesome idea. I now know what to do next time I farm icicles off the nearby apartments.
*Yay I can’t shovel sunshine!
*Hit 80’s in some part of Phoenix yesterday.
*I miss snow.
@ Will
Bite me.
It got above freezing here for the second time this month. It was weird. 15 more degrees and I’ll be wearing shorts.
@ Hooters: He’d probably enjoy that.
*
* And in Nutso news, I just fell off a ladder. Not a big deal, right? I mean, it was just one of those 6 foot step ladder thingies, so no biggie, although I did hit both legs and give them a couple of nice bruises/scrapes. See the problem is I was on my upper porch. The one that is about 1 story above the lower porch. Which is itself above a very steep hill descending into a woods. So I was LUCKY in that rather then falling off the ladder and over the edge of the porch, I just fell off the ladder. Then I decided the snow on the roof could stay there for all I cared. Plus my wife called me a lunitic and told me to get inside before I killed myself.
*
@ Wes:
* There’s a couple guys I work with who wear shorts all year around on the job. I don’t know if they change into them there (we do have a locker room) or just wear them in, and frankly I’d rather not now. I just hope my roof doesn’t start leaking. Yes, it sucks owning a house, although having an apartment with a leaky roof isn’t much better I assure you. (Worst landlord EVER)
Well, he can bite me hard then.
* Hooters just sent the aweseomest picture that is going into the show notes. Those of you who are not hosts will just have to wait until Tuesday to see it.
* Teaser: I put “Awesome Sauce” in the image name/caption.
She sent you a picture of Jizz?
I said you’ll have to wait :)
I’ve got 3 inches of ice on my roof. I’m salting my roof, which is insane. But yeah, I can totally wait for Hooter’s jizz pics.
*Hooters, can I pick the spot to bite you?
*Hey it’s not sunny here today, but its still in supposed to be in the high 60’s low 70’s.
It got close to 40 today. If I hadn’t just gotten up, I’d have considered having a cigar on my front porch.
* You want to have fun with smokers? Buy those ‘little cigars’ that look like cigarettes but are actually cigar tobacco. Then give one to a cigarette smoker and enjoy the hilarity. I know this because my dad used to smoke ‘little cigars’ and I’ve been present on many occasions when people tried to ‘bum a smoke’ off him.
*
* I’ve actually managed, by using salt, a snow shovel, and a 4 gallon cat litter bucket full of hot water to get the ice cap off the part of my roof that is over my upper porch. Oh, and an ax. Almost forgot the ax. (Which again caused my wife to scream at me to get down from that ladder and stop risking death.
*
* I’ve thought about shoveling the snow off the roof, but (it may surprise you to learn) I’m not really that stupid. Aside from risking falling from the roof (Something my brother has managed to do twice, and he’s a professional) I’m also afraid of falling through the roof, as I’m not exactly light.
* Phase two of our plan: Running a hose from teh hot water line, and running that through our pressure washer. It’s just crazy enough to not work very well!
*
* I’m glad that whole Kevin Smith VS SouthWest Air didn’t make teh googles.
*
@ Will: She wants you to bite her shiny metal ass. No wait, that’s Bender, never mind.
* The closest I got to cleaning snow was to park in a different parking space so the shadow of my car wouldn’t be on a specific patch of ice, so it would melt.
* We’ve almost made it to 30 posts!
* And Sam hasn’t even posted once!
* Hooters, she’s the new driver of the feedback section!
* Well, her and snow.
*No snow here.
*Only rain.
*I like rain.
*I wish it would rain more in the desert
*Hey look lucky number 30!
* But in the desert, you can remember your name,
* ‘Cause there ain’t no one for to give you no pain.
Haha just curious if this is the same WeslyC that wrote the mundo guide for LoL ~
@bjbf: As I don’t know what LoL is (Other than the obvious) and am not at all sure what a mundo guide would be, I’m going to guess “no” on that one. But I have written a couple guides on GameFAQs because - yes - I’m just that geeky.
Just in case you where wondering this http://www.leagueoflegends.com/board/showthread.php?t=26833 is what I was referring to (and the subsequent game it accompanies). Really kind of surprised it was not you for some reason ~
On a side not its a real haven of geekiness complete with twitch movement and nerd rage galore =p
