White Christmas, the movie, stars Bing Crosby (again), Danny Daye, Rosemary Clooney (aunt of George Clooney), and Vera-Ellen
“A successful song-and-dance team become romantically involved with a sister act and team up to save the failing Vermont inn of their former [WWII] commanding general.” IMDb

- - 2b. The offense of promoting schism
- - - Usage in English dates to the 14th century, from Greek, through Latin, by way of Anglo-French

- - Useful as a marker to detect disease
- Why now?
- - WWTBAM
- - - For $12,500 in The Body Human
- - - - The vermilion border is a skin formation that is located where on the human body? a) elbows, b) lips, c) knees, d) eyebrows

- - Take a picture, submit it to “Google Goggles,” get a search result.
- - - The example I saw online was the golden gate bridge.
- - Included in the results are common GPS features like nearby stores/restaurants.
- - Sadly, this is only available currently on Android phones.
- - - So I coudln’t try it.
- - - There are rumors on the innertubes that it will work via a Chrome browser extension soon as well.
- - - - Which is quite a bit less useful unless Chrome will run on my non-android phone.
- - - So maybe I’ll try it then.
- - You can also use it to take a picture of someone, and find them on online social network sites.
- - - However, there was a massive uproar because what if someone uses it to find out I like Green Day and then he makes fun of me!?!?
- - - - So Google has blocked the facial recognition part of the software for now.
- - - - - Protip: Don’t put crap about yourself online unless you don’t care who sees it.
- Why now?
- - It be unveiled and stuff.

Tillie is an artist who apeared on NBC’s Tonight Show along with actor Josh Brolin and comedian Chad Daniels.
She has sold over $100,000 in artwork in the last 10 years.
Ok, so if you do the math, that’s $10,000/year average for this artist, but since she’s a dog, it’s an impressive success!
Yes, Tillie the dog artist doesn’t paint dogs, but is in fact a Jack Russel Terrier.
peak: 9pmPST — Tillie’s segment of the Tonight Show

13.    autodidactic (WES)
- An Autodidact:
- - n. Self-taught person
- Autodidactic:
- - The adjective of the above.
- - - So you could say “I am an autodidact” or “I am autodidactic”
- Of course, we are all self-taught to some degree
- - And school-taught to some degree.
- - An Autodidact would be self-taught primariliy, perhaps having not gone to school at all.
- Why now?
- - I am not sure.
- - An author, James Parkinson, wrote a book called “Autodidactic”
- - - He gave away free copies on the 8th to 200 people who listened to a talk he did.
- - - - I don’t think that’s it either, but that’s all I got.
12.    most fascinating people of 2009 (SAM)
- Barbara Walters puts out a list of whom she believes are the most fascinating people of the year.

7.    terri woods (WES)
- Author
- - “Urban Fiction”
- - Invited 175 people to the SoHo nightclub to celebrate her new book.
- - - SoHo is very trendy and posh and bla bla bla.
- - When she arrived, apparently late, she was shocked to find the bouncer hadn’t let most of her guests in.
- - - She believes it was due to racism.
- - While the club has strict appearance rules, they do not include “white”
- - - They do apparently include “thin” and “not dressed like you just got out of Walmart”
- - - Details are thin, but the club is known for being exclusionist and she apparently didn’t set this up very well - - - - - Assuming she set it up at all.
- - She’s suing the clube $1 BILLION for racism.
- - - Good luck with that.
- - This was all back in October
- Why now?
- - I don’t know. I’m guessing she either was on TV somewhere, or (hopefully) her case was thrown out of court.
6.    top chef winner (BOB)

2.    rain on my parade (ADAM)
“Rain on my Parade” was a song performed on the season finale of Fox (hssss!) TV show Glee! (about a high school Glee club–lots of singing and dancing, underdogs and drama)
My singer friends LOVE Glee. My hero Joss Whedon loves Glee–and I hear will be writing/directing an episode soon! (but Glee’s on Fox, so they’ll probably cancel it.) Sadly, I’ve only seen a few minutes of the show.
So, from reading online reviews, I can tell you that despite treachery from Sue the bitchy vindictive cheerleading coach, the Glee club wins Sectionals (big competition) with “Rain on my Parade” sung by perky over-acheiver Rachel (Lea Michele)
originally sung by Barbara Streisand in “Funny Girl”
sung by Rachel on Glee
peak: 6pmPST, when Glee airs

Seabrook Explosion

1.    seabrook explosion (WES)
- Seabrook is a town in Southeast Texas
- - South and East, even, of Houston
- - Well known for its fisheries where you can buy fish and shrimp caught that day.
- - Named after its founder, Seabrook W. Sydnor in 1895, many of its original buildings are still in use today.
- Why now?
- - One of its non-original buildings EXPLODED!
- - - A large chemical plant, American Acryl, sent a huge fireball into the sky (No doubt it was LARPing), followed by plumes of thick, black smoke.
- - The explosion occurred in a building that produces toluene, a petroleum-based chemical that is used to create acrylic acid.
- - - Acrylic acid is used in the manufacture of such wonderful items as disposable diapers and latex paint.
- - - The effects of toluene on the human body include (in small doses) tiredness and memory loss and (in larger doses) DEATH.
- - Nobody was killed in the explosion, and the exposure to toluene in the populace appears, at this time, to be low or nonexistent.
- - - Assuming they remember.

“We Didn’t Start the Fire” rattles off names, places, and key events in 20th century history.
Someone’s already researched each one: http://www.teacheroz.com/fire.htm
Billy Joel music video

5.     shaq retires (After this season)
4.     times square shooting (SAM)
- Wouldn’t be a sam week without a death topic!
- So…Tme Swuare in NYC.
- Where the big Christmas tree and the Ney Year’s ball drop is held.
- But on most days is where you can find many tourist shops and millions of street venders hocking legit and not so legit stuff.
- Like tickets for shows, CD, T-shirt etc.
- What do these hauckers carry?
- Their wears, rnning shoes and change.
- And Semi automatic hand guns.
- Why now?
- Veteran cop confronted a haucker selling illegal stuff.
- his hucker ran, then turned on the cop with a semi automatic.
- The cop shot back and got him.
- Noone ele hurt, just one shop window hit with a stray bullet.
- And time square back to normal…minus the street venders within hours.

3.     rule 5 draft (Major League Baseball)
2.     free golf carts (WES)
- Okay, this is pretty funny.
- - You can get a $5300 tax credit for buying an electric car.
- - Electric golf carts count as electric cars.
- - An Oklahoma golf cart salesman is selling $8000 golf carts.
- - - So they cost you $2700.
- - Then, he’ll lease them from you (and out to renters) for $100/month, for 27 months.
- - - Free golf cart!
- - I guess, if people actually use them instead of a gas-powered car, then it’s not quite so bad.
- - - But maybe next time the tax credit should be a percentage of the purchase price.
- Why now?
- - The loophole was explored on Fox News

- Back to TV in 1978 and has been one of the hosts for Good Morning America for about forever.

- Why now?
- - Tiger Woods fans continue to be illiterate
- - - That’s a noun, meaning an inability to read or write
- - - - Which I suppose is an exaggeration for people with vocabulary problems
- - - - - Vocabulary, incidentally, is a noun meaning the set of words a person is familiar with
- - Tiger gave a statement saying that he was taking an indefinite break from professional golf

    * Teh volcanipedia entry is teh done.
    * http://www.crazynutso.com/volcanipedia/tiki-index.php?page=Week+Ending+December+11+2009
    * Using Teh instead of the is retarded.
    * The Hooters character page may be to hot for Volcanipedia.
    * Welcome Adam, has he been conned in for good, or is he going to wise up and head for the hills?
    * Despite all of Adam’s YouTube links, I put in one more, to one of the great SCTV skits.
    * Despite being much longer then the last show, I found less moments of awesomeness.
    * That’s probably me though.

  2. Volcanicaston 16 Dec 2009 at 2:04 am

    ur comment:
    * Using “retarded” instead of “dumb” is retarded
    * Adam will be hilling it for a few weeks, but promises to come back. I believe him. For now.
    * I haven’t heard it yet (except when editing, which I think I did a much better job of this week than last) so have no comment on the awesomeitude.
    * I hope it’s you :)

    ur entry:
    * I still can’t believe Bob doesn’t have the phone number memorized after saying it roughly 100 weeks in a row.
    * We make fun because we love. To make fun. Of her talking.
    * I still haven’t followed his youtube links.
    * See below on the new drafting.
    * I am extremely curious what bad Tiger Woods joke I made this week.
    * I am a major SCTV fan. That said, I’ll probably never follow your youtube link either.
    * It’s more of a bell bell, now.
    * I should probably have saved the tangents and put up a tangentcast. But I’m too lazy. Maybe next week. I have to say I’m torn on the editing the show myself. It’s faster than uploading to you (Though I think I can cut the audio quality down without actually losing any quality, making the files much smaller) but takes more time for me. Less for you, I imagine.
    * The White Christmas thing was the best outtake I could find. No, really.
    —-
    New Drafting:
    —-
    * There are behind-the-scenes complications to it, but essentially “New Drafting” is that we get the same number of topics (7 each when there are 3 or less of us, 5 each when there are 4 of us) but with each pick we can pick from any day.
    * This is why Several days only had 2 topics picked and on Wednesday I had 3 picks out of the 6 total.
    * Expect similar to happen as the weeks go by.
    * This should ensure that we won’t have to skip a good topic to get stuck with a crappy one.
    * It could of course still be that we still get crappy topics (I mean, 20 good topics a week is asking a lot of Google) but the number of crappy topics should generally be less than in the past.

    * I like bad singing, so the White Christmas thing wasn’t so bad. I thought it’d be something like ‘Aryan Christmas’ or something.
    * I have examined the ‘Sam’ picture from the Sam’s page on Volcanipedia, and I don’t believe that is nipple. It’s just not properly positioned to be nipple.
    * For that matter, didn’t Michelangelo do a painting of ‘Adam’? I’ve already used statuary to represent cast members. . . hmmm…
    * A quick image search for ‘Hooters’ mostly brings up imagery for the popular ‘restaurant’ chain.
    * I’m almost positive it’s me. Plus I was not destracted from the show by my cat stealing the cap from my drink & destroying the wrapping paper on the floor…
    * You mentioned blowing up Brook Shields (or Sam did) and that made me thing of the SCTV Celebrity Farm Film report. I could swear they actually did blow up Brook Shields, but could find no evidence of it.
    * She blew up REAL GOOD.
    * The biggest problem with my editing is the Upload/Download factor. Maybe you could put the show onto a USB drive, and have Sam drive it to my house, then wait while I edit it and drive back with the finished product.
    * Yeah, that’d work better.
    * In any case, the turnaround is good enough, and I doubt anyone will miss the tangents, being that I assume you don’t clip out as many as I did.
    * I still don’t understand why the Disemvoiced Body Mark II was apparently exiled from the room.

    * Actually, she could get the show to you quicker than the upload takes, if the show’s over an hour long or so.
    * Not so much getting the show back to me, as you compress it down to mp3. Takes about a minute usually.
    * The stuff I cut out was pretty boring, so I doubt it’d be missed by anybody but Sean. I don’t mind a few tangents to beef the show up to about an hour, really. If it was 2 hours long and there were some awesome tangents, I would think that cutting them into their own show is a good idea, but really 1 hour is nothing in Podcast land.
    * I listen to about 5 shows that are NEVER less than an hour, and some of them are sometimes over 2 hours long.
    * DBMII (aka the booth babe) opted herself to be out of the room, because she sits where the 4th (1st, actually, but our internal numbering system doesn’t matter to the listeners) mic is, and while we CAN move it, it’s far from easy.

  5. Crazy Nutsoon 16 Dec 2009 at 9:39 am

    * The only solution to that would be to convert it prior to upload, but that would reduce the quality, I guess. (Sound quality, that is. Not much can be done to reduce the content quality)
    * Usually the tangents improve the show. My basic goal was always to get the show under an hour. Probably at times I overdid it in this respect, however the bulk of your audience (IE Drew) prefers shorter shows. I think his target is 15 minutes.
    * I don’t listen to a lot of podcasts, but the ones I do are all over an hour.
    * Well, the Booth Babe could always sit on someone’s lap. Doesn’t she have duties? Not duties re: Sitting on someone’s lap. . . oh forget it.

{} The problem is that I do have it memorized, but not as a number. It’s apparently like learning a song in another language; I know it phonetically. So, once sidetracked, I couldn’t pull the actual number out of my brain for recitation. Weird, I know.

  7. Volcanicaston 16 Dec 2009 at 5:20 pm

No, I can lower the bits per second of the wave file before saving it. It’ll still be “uncompressed” just lower quality. I’m going to cut the quality in half for next week’s show and see if anybody notices. The trick is, I won’t tell anybody and then…

    …Crap.

    * As long as it doesn’t effect Sam’s Hot New Zealand Accent, I don’t care.
    * Bob, you’ve proven time and again you can stumble anything, don’t worry about it.
    * I have an image for Adam’s page, now you’ve just got to get him to say some of the 5 things. . . or something.

  9. Volcanicaston 17 Dec 2009 at 7:22 am

    * That may take a while.
    * Like a month.
    * He’s out of town FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR.

  10. Crazy Nutsoon 19 Dec 2009 at 5:53 am

    * What’s hilarious is people are still trying to join ‘volcanipedia’.
    * As if we’d admit anyone who would apply for that!
    * Probably someone trying to nip the ‘Hooters’ page. In the bud.
    * OK, OK, so I’m just posting to get the count up to 10.
    * Is that such a crime?
    * Plus I can’t go to sleep until the wife gets safely to work in the $*%& snow.
    * Once again I curse my driveway.
    * Once again I wish I had the dough for that 2-stage, self-propelled snow-blower.
    * OK, I could get it, but unlike Bob, I can’t tolerate being in credit card debt more then a few months.
    * The above bit of libel (slander?) is based on some off-handed remarks made several shows ago.
    * And probably no longer applies to the Bob of today.
    * And now that I’ve said that, he can’t sue.
    * One last pointless point, and I’ll stop.
    * The movie ‘Sex Drive’ is the stupidest movie I’ve ever seen. And I’ve seen some stupid movies. Also, I couldn’t sit through more then the first 15 minutes of it. Despite it having been recommended (and given to me) by someone who’s opinion I generally respect. Yeah, just don’t watch it. That is all.
